Hunger, it’s one of the most primal sensations that we experience as humans. Signals are sent from the body (gut) & the brain exchanging information on what our body needs in order to survive & to thrive. We are hardwired to hunger & to thirst. Our life literally depends on it & when we don’t have it we may behave in ways that are out of character. We may become angry or irritated, what most people call “hangry” these days. Yet at the same time, most of us, in this modern era, hardly ever experience true, life threatening, hunger. Although, as a nation that is known for our high rate of citizens with obesity, diabetes & heart disease, we are deeply malnourished & addicted to foods that have little to no nutritional value. Most of us are actually “starving”, but not from food, but from nutrient dense vitamins & minerals. Because of the depletion of our soil, due to things like chem trails, air pollution, herbicides & pesticides, etc. Essentially, most of us are consuming, but not retaining the proper nutrients needed to be & feel healthy.
We’ve become so accustomed to having food at the push of a button, delivered right to our doors. Whether you’re ordering take/out or you’ve got one of those meal subscriptions or even having your groceries delivered right to your doorstep. Can you recall the last time you truly hungered? So many of us use the saying; “I’m starving” when we haven’t eaten in a few hours. But are we really starving? Or are we just being dramatic? I don’t mean to patronize anyone here, because this is something I’ve said before & I have the privilege of having food whenever I want & generally whatever I want. But how many times in your life have you ever really been starving? Maybe, stop & think about this; what if you’re “starving” for Truth…not food?

“Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” || John 6:27
Our relationship to food has become greatly impacted my our modern times of convenience stores & fast food restaurants. We don’t have to actually have a relationship with our food. It’s become an automatic transaction. It’s now something that’s more of a social activity than it is a part of our survival. Most people dread going to the grocery store these days. They become impatient waiting in line for their turn to check out & swipe their card.
Think about it, we don’t have to go out & hunt for our food. We don’t have to plant seeds & water them & nurture their growth, making sure they’re in the right environment to thrive. (Talk about needing patience) We don’t have the gratitude that comes from preparing it with our own hands. Or having the satisfaction of knowing where our food came from. Or reverence for the earth that was essentially the womb that allowed us to birth the food we use to fill our bodies with nutrients. We don’t have the thankfulness to God, the Creator of it all — our bodies, the earth, the animals, the vegetation.— We have no appreciation for what has been given to us as a gift from our Father.
“And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”
| Genesis 1:11-12
Why? In short, because we’ve lost touch with our Creator. We trust & worship science over God. All the artificial intelligence & all the artificial ingredients in our food & in our water has quite literally formed a divide between the creation (the body/earth) & the Creator (the spirit/our souls). This is causing so much disease & illness in the human mind, body & spirit. I can tell you, that it’s because we’re actually hungry, hungry for real food. Not artificial food. Not synthetic food, not food that has been genetically modified, not food that has been poisoned by chemicals or created in a science lab, & not food that has been fertilized with pesticides. But real food. Food that isn’t just of the body, but of the spirit.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger.” He is stating to us very simply that food of this world will never satisfy us. It may please & satisfy our tastebuds for a short time, it may fill our bellies & give us the sensation of being full. It will gratify our immediate cravings & stimulate the receptors in our brain linked to our survival instincts. Now, it’s important to note here that we, as humans, will still continue to crave & to hunger for food of the earth. But in Him, your soul will never crave. Because He will satiate your spirit. He will fill you full with the Holy Spirit. You will never be thirsty or hungry in the way that you used to be. Because in Him you are a new creation. A creation of the Spirit, not of the earth. You will look at the food of this earth as a gift from God & it will heal your relationship with food & with your body. You will no longer be dependent on food to support you emotionally or keep you full, you will still of course, hunger in the sense of nourishing your body, but you will no longer hunger, or rather lust after the things of this world, including food. Because your mind will be on things above, on Christ, where food of the earth will be so far from your mind that you will only eat when you need to eat, to sustain your mind & body. & your spirit will be feasting on the Bread of Life.
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” || John 6:35
Notice how food has become a way to escape. You eat when you’re bored. You eat when you’re sad. You eat to try to fill a void that can only be filled by Jesus Christ. His Body is the bread & His blood is the water. When He was pierced in the side on the cross, sacrificed for our sins, blood & water poured from Him. Signifying that our sins were washed clean. Because He was clean & holy, sinless & blameless. & we love today, we thirst & we hunger & we crave, because He gave us life. If you will sit with your hunger, for just a few minutes before going straight to the food to fill it, you will know God. You will form a relationship with Him that will bring all your inner vacancies into wholeness. Our ancestors had to rely on God in order to eat every single day. Without Him they could not survive.
“Give us this day our daily bread,” || Matthew 6:11
Just as we, today, cannot live, eternally live, without Christ. He is our Savior. The bread that was sent down from heaven to earth to feed our spirits. Before Him our souls were starving. God heard our hunger from heaven & sent His Son to feed us. He knew we were hungry for something more. He is that hunger that we actually feel, deep in our souls. That we try to fill with everything else but Him. When you are living a life without the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, you will continue to hunger for the things of this world & even if you get it, your hunger will only be satisfied for a short time & you’ll be craving again. Until you’re eating your daily bread you will starve your spirit & wonder why you still feel so empty & need to fill yourself & your life with worldly things. Your daily bread is the word of God. Jesus Christ is the Word of God made flesh. He made the Word alive & when you give yourself to Him, your spirit will come alive with His food of the spirit.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” || John 6:47-51
We are all one body in Christ. Without Him in our lives it’s like we’re walking around with one of our limbs missing. We cannot walk with God without Him. I mean, we can, but will still hunger & thirst. We cannot feed our spirits without Him. He doesn’t want us to starve. He doesn’t want us to feel empty & try to live without Him. He wants our hunger for Him to overpower our hunger for the world. He wants us to live on the bread of life that He gave to us, so that we can live eternally in Him. He has provided us with what we need to survive & to Know Him, to be made whole in Him through His Son, the bread of life. So that we will never hunger, but have life & have it abundantly!
“So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” || John 6:53-58
